No, se­ri­ously sit­ting does get you fat. An en­zyme called lipopro­tein li­pase in your blood ves­sel cap­tures fat in the blood and burns it. The en­zyme trig­gers when you’re stand­ing or mov­ing or mov­ing but take a seat and these en­zymes go back to their hide­aways. Ac­cord­ing to James Levine, an obe­sity re­searcher at the Mayo Clinic, what sep­a­rates thin peo­ple from the fat ones aren’t their diet but their sit­ting habits. This is why it’s re­ally im­por­tant to take short walks to stretch your mus­cles ev­ery 30 min­utes or so. Re­mem­ber, ev­ery lit­tle move­ment counts.
