Hannah Jonas sits down with the Mix FM team to get a little insight on how things work off-air. While the radio announcers keep you entertained, these guys work hard behind the scenes to keep everything else on track.
CLEO takes Mix FM behind the studio.
Name: Eric Ho Age: 34 Job: Music Executive
“It’s great to see how the radio has developed over the years.” Starting out as a Mix FM cruiser in 2006, Eric went on to become a producer before progressing to his current position. As a music exec, Eric determines the tracks that go into the playlist to suit Mix’s demographic, taking pains to ensure that it gets as close as possible to their listeners’ Spotify list (so that you still get your much-needed dose of jams while you’re stuck in traffic). He has to exercise lots of creativity when churning out content as it can get quite challenging, especially with the many distractions surrounding his audience, as well as the restrictions faced in Malaysia. But he loves it anyway, and that’s what counts! Name: Izzati Tawfik Age: 26 Job: Promo Executive
“I enjoy how my job challenges me.” What do promo execs do? In Izzati ’s case, she manages all the campaigns. That means whatever is running on the air at the time, falls under her supervision. From start to end, she stays in charge of the activation and keeps track of the client’s wishes, the constant communication from different parties and also the timeline – ensuring that none of the campaigns clash or compete with each other. She was previously in television, but joined Mix FM because she wanted to try something new and discovered that despite the demanding work, she enjoys herself a great deal. You go, girl!
Name: Ain Ruzanna Farid Age: 33 Job: Digital Content Producer
“I like to just roll with things and learn from experience.” When she’s not recording videos or producing campaign videos with the media team, Ain manages social media and curates content for the radio’s website. Her favourite thing about her job is when she gets to shoot videos outside the studio – like the viral video of DJ Prem Shanker’s birth simulation – because it’s a different environment altogether. Trying to direct traffic from other stations to Mix’s social media pages is tough, but her background in media for the past five years has trained her to work in tandem with the digital age to successfully push content onto social media. She’s only been with Mix FM for slightly under a year, so you really have to give her props for being so good at what she does.
