CLEO (Malaysia) - - CAREER SPECIAL -

ake it from us: Two swipes of red are all you need for double-takes on the street. Or to nail that contract (or that hot date). Just look to Taylor Swift. Rihanna. Rita Ora. Or the queens of the world. They’re proofs that if there’s one thing that this classic colour of choice does best, it’s to make you look in a sec. Strong, sassy and ultimately sexy — no shade says that better than red. The rage for rouge started way before its tube creation in 1915. From the ancient Mesopotamians (who crushed semiprecious stones to adorn their lips), to Cleopatra (who did the same, except with bugs), to Queen Elizabeth II, the colour stood the test of time to represent the pouts of the powerful. It’s no wonder, too. The colour of blood and fire, red energises your spirit, pushes you into action, and calms fears; symbolising great passion and courage. The Chinese, Indians and Japanese have also long believed in its good luck. Cherry red may be the iconic shade, but its variants are aplenty, making their rounds in trends, and gracing glamorous lips everywhere. And if you haven’t found that one red lippie which makes your own pucker pop, don’t pout — look at what Shiseido’s got for you.
