When you’re too emotional to tackle the challenge positively, try a short-term fix instead. Five minutes of belly-breathing can trick your brain into thinking that it’s super Zen. Also, pounding the pavement for half an hour or journalling in a diary are much better band-aids than having a drink or futile Facebook session. Studies have also shown that helping someone else not only makes you seem nice, but reduces your stress levels by taking the focus off your own personal sh*tstorm for a moment.
Set a time limit so you don’t feel like you’re running away from the problem. Once the time’s up, face the pain again.
