Kittie Yiyi, 26, Founder of Kittie Yiyi
After her debut at Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (KLFW) in 2014, Kittie’s eponymous line gained popularity for its youthful and playful charm thanks to its quirky prints and striking colour palettes. The hard-to-miss sequined bumble bee coat had become a crowd favourite and one of Kittie’s most striking signature pieces. “Showcasing at KLFW was probably one of my luckiest moments. I’ve gotten so much attention since then. I’m blessed, and so thankful to KLFW,” Kittie raves. To many, she’s the blogger with the larger-than-life persona who shows up always dressed to the nines in her eclectic style. In reality, she’s just a down-toearth church-going girl. So when I ask her to reveal any hidden talents, she muses, “I would say, maybe hairstyling; I used to work in a salon as a shampoo girl. Something quirky about me? I always touch up my lipstick to make sure it’s perfect!” sometimes I just can’t believe how much I’ve grown up and learnt in the past three years!” One quick look at the unfinished rack and I immediately know what the inspiration behind her Spring/Summer 2017 collection is: Mermaids.
Flourishes of pastel sea blue and mermaid metallics gleam on the hangers. As I sift through the pieces, one in particular catches my eye: A chubby mermaid print set against pink lace.
“This collection is all about a romantic yet rebellious mermaid who came out from the sea,” Kittie
It's crunch time! Kittie’s wall of inspo in her parlour.
