Yoke Sin and Yokie, Founders of Yoke & Theam
town of Ipoh 90 years ago. The girls’ father, Theam Kam Kee continued the family business and worked as a shoe supplier. Now comes the golden question: How is it like working with a sibling? Yoke Sin answers, “it’s good that we are sisters so we don’t really fight, and even if we do, it only last for a few minutes and we go back to focusing on what’s best for the brand.” As trendy young women, Yokie and Yoke Sin noticed a gap in the industry: A need for affordable, stylish yet comfy footgear that lasts. With shared knowledge in Graphic Design, and Business and Commerce as well as a master’s degree in Fashion and Textiles — not to mention a shoe factory (which stands till this day) as a childhood playground — the Theam sisters set out to continue the family legacy and started making shoes for the fashionable girl.
If anything, the striking eclectic graphics make the brand signature style. And if you wonder where the aesthetic comes from, the girls are both very artistically-inclined. Yoke Sin reveals, “
