This flame- haired beauty is on fire and we’re all for it

Your voice is sou nm is take able and unique; did you always know that you always wanted to be a singer? Thank you! I have always loved singing—but I don’t think I ever knew t hat I was going to be doing what I’ m doing right now ... It’ s weird and amazing because t here was always a part of me t hat always dreamed of it. Was there a turning point? When I was in my late teens and early twenties, everyone was going to university and I realised t hat’s not what I wanted to do. Every time I set out, I knew music was what I wanted to do. It was the only thing I loved or had a passion for.

”It’s a really weird thing to think that I would achieve so much so early on in my career.”

Let’ s talk about your latest single “I’ll Be There”. Can you tell us more about it and what inspired you to write it? The song basically comes from a friend of mine. The girl I wrote it with was going through something last year and she sent me a message and was just like “I’ ve been listening to your album and thank you, even though you haven’t been here you’ve been here .” It was such a beautiful message and such an amazing thing to hear from a friend. It was a song for me and for everybody else. So it was beautiful. You’ re the first British woman with six Number 1 sin the UK — congrats! How did you feel when you found out about it? Thank you! It was pretty insane like a whirlwind. It’ s a really weird thing to think that so early on in my career I would achieve so much. Who would you say are your biggest influences? I think early on, my heaviest influences were Amy Wine house and Lauryn Hill — t heir writing techniques, what t hey wrote about and how they put their words into music and turned it into as kill. And I think vocal ly, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Aretha Franklin were massive influence son me becoming a big vocalist.

These days, we’re tuned into Jess Glynne
