Brand New Woman

Lana Del Rey is back, and feeling happy

ELLE (Malaysia) - - BEHIND THE COVER -

If in years past Lana Del Rey was the dreamy-eyed best friend to her fans, consoling them through heartbreak, cajoling them into adventures, the 2017 Lana reads more like a knowing older sister. On her new album, Lust for Life, she advocates appreciating every romance, and celebrating the joys of being alive – a 180° turn from her debut album Born

To Die. She even smiles on the cover. And in our cover story Lana shares a surprising new truth: happiness is now the only thing that matters to her.

Style-wise, the New Yorker has always favoured a rose-tinted retro look, embracing swingy ’50s sundresses, thigh-skimming Mod frocks and ’70s-style prairie dresses, all accented with her signature cat-eye and pillowy lips. On the red carpet she dials it up in floor-length gowns by the likes of Altuzarra and Vivienne Westwood, with the occasional vintage piece thrown in. As for the arresting gaze and poise – that’s all Lana. Whether coy or confident, happy or sad, Lana Del Rey represents the freedom to be whoever you want to be. No apologies necessary.
