ELLE (Malaysia) - - CONTENTS -

woMen’s fragrance of the ye ar chanel no. 5 L’eau

Perfumer Olivier Polge’s reimagining of Chanel’s most beloved classic is an articulation of the Chanel woman of the present: spontaneous, sophisticated and always chic. A chorus of citruses delights at first spritz, transforming into a timeless floral heart of rose, jasmine and ylang-ylang against a voluptuous musk and cedar dry down. RM410 (50ml)

Best for Sunday brunch Gucci Flora Gardenia Limited Edition

A refreshing, easy fruity-floral that takes whatever you’re wearing and dresses it up in red berries and a posy of gardenias on patchouli and brown sugar, perfect with mimosas at your favourite café. RM295 (50ml)

Best first date fragrance Salvatore Ferragamo Signorina In Fiore

ThisnewversionofSalvatoreFerragamo’s well-loved Signorina fragrance is a fresh take on the fruity-floral combination, opening with a juicy bouquet of Nashi pear sorbet and pomegranate, backed up by cherry blossom and jasmine blooms. If you like your scents bright, light and airy, this is a beautiful example. RM201 (30ml)

Best rose fragrance Bulgari Rose Goldea

Rose fragrances are everywhere, but this one is different. The light, youthful perfume was inspired by Cleopatra’s famous love for roses, and the bottle by the Egyptian queen’s sunray headdress and serpent totem. Finally, a rose perfume that’s not just beloved by grandmas. RM404 (50ml)

Most all uring Diptyque Do Son EDP

Every fragrance house has their own version of tuberose which, in different hands, can be transmuted into a fresh, spring-like scent or a heady, sensual one. Diptyque has given the white floral a backing of spicy pink pepper, while African orange flower and rose add delicacy and freshness. This is a scent that will leave a trail of admirers in your wake. RM639 (75ml)

Most romantic Yves Saint Laurent Mon Paris

A scent inspired by the city of love was always going to play on our romantic instincts. Mon Paris opens up with a fresh blend of ripe berries and pear, and a heart of datura flower, peony, orange blossom and jasmine that dries down to a warm, woody base. It’s a feminine, sensual scent with a slightly heady overtone that evokes balmy Parisian nights and silk slips. RM390 (50ml)

Best daytime fragrance Dior J’Adore Injoy

Like all the best scents, Injoy, the newest incarnation of Dior’s celebrated J’Adore fragrance, transforms throughout the day. Dior perfumer François Demachy wanted to create something refreshing and joyful, so he combined ylang-ylang, peach and fleur de sel accords then added a salty undertone to bring out new notes in these familiar ingredients. RM465 (100ml)

Best fragrance for the office Jo Malone Basil & Neroli Cologne

Jo Malone excels in simple but exciting combinations, and this is one of the brand’s most effective. It’s all about the neroli – delicate, floral and bright – with a citrusy, peppery edge provided by basil. White musk completes the trio with a touch of warmth and sensuality. A clean scent that’s perfect for long days at the office when you want to stay focused without drowning your deskmates. RM245 (30ml)

Best unisex scent Calvin Klein CK All EDT

CK All takes the spirit of the original, revolutionary CK One and propels it into the Gen-Z age on the back of a citrusfresh chorus of bergamot, mandarin and grapefruit flower. Alongside this throwback signature is the clean, expansive jasmine-derived paradisone, all swathed in amber, musk and vetiver for warm complexity. RM239 (100ml)

Best for hot climates Elizabeth Arden White Tea

There is no more uplifting mid-afternoon ritual than sipping on tea, an experience recreated in this powdery, feminine yet fresh fragrance thanks to the decidedly unfussy notes of white tea vapours and sea breeze, with a woody, musky finish. RM268 (50ml)

Best island holiday fragrance Anna Sui Luck y Wish Secret Wish

The lilac, fairy-topped bottle may not immediately scream “beach!”, but a whiff of the juice – a sparkling, zesty citrus cocktail – signals otherwise. Use as a balm against life’s realities away from the sea. RM264 (50ml)

Best for uptown girls Coach Eau de Toilett e

This clean, preppy concoction is the kind strangers stop to ask about. It begins with a radiant blast of green mandarin, guava, violet and water lily around a heart of white flowers, tempered with mimosa. But the star of the show is jasmine, a ray of sunshine after the rain against a backdrop of amber and cedar. RM375 (90ml)

Best celeb rity campaign Guerlain Mon Guerlain

Pair legacy perfume house Guerlain with superstar, filmmaker and activist Angelina Jolie (in her first ever fragrance campaign, natch) and you have a dream team. Even better – Angelina donated every penny from this cinematic campaign to charity. RM432 (50ml)

Best bottle Marc Jacobs Divine Decadence

Marc Jacobs is responsible for some of the most memorable perfume bottles in recent history, and this flacon is no exception. Its youthful audacity is filtered through the label’s vintage, art-chic aesthetic and emerges as a gleaming purse crafted in glass, metal and turquoise faux snakeskin. And who can resist a tassel? RM390 (50ml)

Best fragrance for the young, and young at heart Annick Goutal Rose Pompon EDT

Whiletherearemanyworthygatewaysfor fragrance rookies, we propose this tender take on the queen of flowers. A jam-like opening of raspberry and blackcurrant with a peppery bite melts into a blooming rose and pink peony bouquet, sweet and sultry. The effect lingers as notes of musk, cedar and patchouli round off this sweet, tart and airy delight. RM510 (50ml)

Best new floral Sisley Izia EDP

Rose, but not as you know it. Generous green and fresh notes make this one the scent of an entire bouquet – stems, leaves and all. The touch of dryness in Izia’s foundation of cedar, amber accord and musk trio completes the journey. RM850 (100ml)

Best fresh update Miu Miu L’Ea u Bleue

The first Miu Miu fragrance stopped plenty of people in their tracks, and now with L’Eau Bleue the berries are swapped out for dew drops and green notes, adding an aquatic quality to the original lily-of-the-valley blend. Akigalawood accord lends a peppery, woody undertow to proceedings, completing an exuberant addition to any dresser. RM365 (50ml)

Best for summer in the city HermÉs Ea u des Merveilles Bleue

This take on the delightfully woody original takes a detour through the ocean. Marine salt spray summons images of waves crashing on the rocks, lending crispness to patchouli and warm woods. It’s sure to imbue any city slicker (man or woman) with just a touch of the outdoors. RM503 (50ml)

Best for boho bab es Ch loÉ Signature EDP

Like a breezy eyelet dress, Chloé’s namesake scent is easy to wear, freespirited and feminine. Uncap the elegant ribbed glass bottle for an initial blast of peony, freesia and lychee that transforms into a sublime powder-puff cloud of rose, lily-of-the-valley and magnolia, then softly ebbs into Virginia cedar and musk. RM489 (75ml)

Best for parties Prada Ca ndy Kiss EDP

Awhimsical blend of grown-up, powdery musks layered on sweet vanilla and a splash of orange blossom make this one a welcome complement to any statementmaking dress. RM366 (50ml)

Editor’s Choice Diptyque 34 Boulevard Sa int Germain EDT

For Diptyque’s 50th year, perfumer Olivier Pescheux dreamt up a symphony of elements from the house’s most iconic scents, from Philosykos and L’Ombre Dans l’Eau’s sweet ripe blackcurrant and leaves, to the spark of pepper, citrus and spices via L’Eau and rich tuberose and Egyptian geraniums from Do Son. This elegant composition languorously flits between cool and warm. Totally divine. RM609 (100ml)

Men’s fragrance of the ye ar Gucci Guilty Absolute

This collaboration between Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele and perfumer Alberto Morillas draws from the traditions of woody scents, but with two new notes: a custom leather note that pays tribute to the house’s roots, and a new extract of the Nootka cypress that Morillas discovered in the Royal Botanical Gardens’ archive. RM429 (150ml)

Best for the man about town Valentino Uomo EDT

The man who knows where to go and what to do also knows that a daringly off-kilter fragrance is the one to turn heads. Like Valentino Uomo, a blend of bergamot, myrtle and darkly roasted coffee, along with chocolate and hazelnut cream, chased down with cedar and deeply luxuriant leather. RM263 (50ml)

Best sporty fragrance Chanel Allure Homme Sport

Perfumer Jacques Polge might have been dreaming of distilling a citrus orchard while creating this incredibly zesty composition. Think orange, mandarin orange, grapefruit, neroli, bergamot, and lemon fused with aldehydes for a squeaky clean sensibility. Then spices are layered on, for a lingering freshness long after he’s left the gym. RM270 (50ml)

Best for evening Mr Burberry

Every once in a while, a fashion house attempts to recreate an iconic garment in olfactive form, and Mr Burberry is exactly that for Burberry’s trench coat. The cool streets of London by night are the perfect foil for perfumer Francis Kurkdjian’s interpretation: spicy top notes of tarragon and cinnamon, layered on patchouli and a smoky, woody vetiver and amber base. RM430 (100ml)

Best update Dior Sa uvag e Very Cool Spray

When Dior introduced Sauvage in 2015, the cologne’s evocation of wide, wild outdoor spaces made it a bright new star in the house’s stable of fragrances. This year’s Sauvage Very Cool Spray is a fresh new interpretation of the already exciting fragrance. A splash of grapefruit in the top notes gives the original composition of bergamot and ambroxan a citrusy lift, while a combination of pink and Sichuan peppers add warmth and spice. RM315 (100ml)

Most Mem orable Bottega Veneta Pour Homme Pa rfum

Bottega Veneta’s boldest offering is a bottling of a crisp, cool mountain adventure and the warmth of aged leather. Wood and spice of cedar leaf and cardamom concentrates are bolstered by fir resin and red pimento while leather, tonka bean and labdanum base lend sweetness to the blend. RM342 (50ml)

Best for day Hugo Hugo Boss Iced

Start your day clear-eyed and focused with this invigorating scent with its extra cool top note of iced mint. Beneath that is a cocktail of stimulating wild tea, juniper and bitter orange, grounded by wild vetiver for a deep and intense base. RM254 (75ml)

Best for hot climates L’Occitane L’Homme Cologne Cedrat

For a scent that screams summer, look to this zesty, revitalising blend of cedrat peel and frosted mint, black pepper, pink peppercorn and ginger – at once ice cold and spicy. RM240 (75ml)

Best heritage fragrance Acqua di Pa rma Colonia Club EDC

It’s hard to believe a fragrance this ‘classic’ has only been around for two years. Colonia Club draws from the traditions of woody aromatic scents, opening with a clean, citrusy cloud, with a herbal blend of mint, neroli, lavender and geranium following, rounded off by an energetic base of woody Haiti vetiver, warming musk and grey amber. RM366 (50ml)
