Tourism’s next frontier, the Girlfriend Getaway Market
oepresenting a market of US$6 billion in the United States alone, the dirlfriend detaway market (dda) is fast gaining prominence as a tourism force to be reckoned with worldwide. The dda market is defined as a holiday getaway for women and their girlfriends.
According to Dr Catheryn Khoo-iattimore, senior lecturer at driffith University, the dda market remains largely untouched and represents an area of huge potential for the tourism segment.
“This is an emerging market and it is still very new. There is a lot of money to be made in this market and it is a very under catered market,” said Dr. Khoo in a lecture entitled “tomen Travelers- Marketing to Emerging Tourism Segments”
Khoo added that more recent statistics from 2014 indicate that 90% of women in the United States have taken a dda and more intend to do so in the next 12 months.
“Demographics of these women revealed that 72% of them are married and over 88% of them have children under the age of 18,” added Dr. Khoo.
