6 Million Chinese to Travel Abroad during Spring Festival
As many as 6 million Chinese travellers from China are expected to spend their holiday outside the mainland, spending an estimated RMB 100 billion (RM 64 billion) in late January and early February. Among the reasons Chinese travellers are spending the seven-day Chinese New Year holidays outside of China include friendlier visa policies, better incomes and improved flight connectivity. Chinese travel services site Ctrip has revealed that eight out of the top 10 holiday destinations for Chinese tourists are within Asia including Thailand, Japan, South Korea and Singapore. The growing number of Chinese travellers touring abroad goes to show the increasingly popular trend of spending the festive season overseas among the country’s growing middle-class has not been affected by the recent slide of the value of the yuan.
