6 Mil­lion Chi­nese to Travel Abroad dur­ing Spring Fes­ti­val

As many as 6 mil­lion Chi­nese trav­ellers from China are ex­pected to spend their hol­i­day out­side the main­land, spend­ing an es­ti­mated RMB 100 bil­lion (RM 64 bil­lion) in late Jan­uary and early Fe­bru­ary. Among the rea­sons Chi­nese trav­ellers are spend­ing the seven-day Chi­nese New Year hol­i­days out­side of China in­clude friend­lier visa poli­cies, bet­ter in­comes and im­proved flight con­nec­tiv­ity. Chi­nese travel ser­vices site Ctrip has re­vealed that eight out of the top 10 hol­i­day des­ti­na­tions for Chi­nese tourists are within Asia in­clud­ing Thai­land, Ja­pan, South Korea and Sin­ga­pore. The grow­ing num­ber of Chi­nese trav­ellers tour­ing abroad goes to show the in­creas­ingly pop­u­lar trend of spend­ing the fes­tive sea­son over­seas among the coun­try’s grow­ing mid­dle-class has not been af­fected by the re­cent slide of the value of the yuan.
