Tottori Gems unveiled at KLCC Isetan
SNOW CRABS & PLENTY OF JAPANESE PRODUCE SHOWCASED AT THE 10 DAYS FAIR
Precious produce and seafood delights were unveiled last November in Isetan KLCC courtesy of the Tottori Prefectural Government of Japan who launched the Tottori Food & Tourism Fair 2016. Held from the 11th to the 20th of November, the fair featured delicious fruit produce, dairy products and massive snow crabs local to the prefecture of Tottori. Introducing the attractions and highlights of the prefecture was Sunichi Suzuki, Director at the Tourism and Exchange Bureau of the Tottori Prefectural Government. “Tottori Prefecture is located towards the west of Japan and is filled with tremendous flora and fauna. It contains within it a very natural landscape,” said the director. The prefecture is primarily famous for its naturally occurring sand dunes which are said to be the largest in Japan, stretching some 16 kilometres. This remarkable formation is shaped by sediments brought down from the Chugoku Mountains from ocean currents and prevailing winds that surface from the sea of Japan. The director suggested that tourists should visit the prefecture during the winter season particularly in November as it provides them the opportunity to really experience winter, the prefecture’s popular hot springs and natural landscape. “Winter provides a uniquely special opportunity for our guests to be able to enjoy the prefecture’s famous snow crabs.” Sunichi added. Tottori is the largest producer of snow crabs in Japan. The director also extended a personal welcome to all Malaysian visitors and looks forward to greater collaboration with Malaysia to help cross-promote tourism experiences. “We are collaborating heavily with Malaysia’s Ministry of Tourism to help promote Malaysia in Tottori and to show what Tottori has to offer as well. We hope to offer much more programs in the future for both countries,” he said. For manga and anime fans, Tottori Prefecture is known as the ‘Manga Kingdom’ thanks to characters like Detective Conan and Gegege no Kitaro. 2 of the local airports in the prefecture have been named after popular manga characters which are the Yonago Kitaro Airport and the Tottori Sand Dunes Conan Airport. A must-see for Detective Conan fans is the Gosho Aoyama Manga Factory located in Hokuei and for Gegege no Kitara fans, the hometown of Shiregu Mizuki in Sakaiminato offers many landmarks like the Mizuki Shigeru Road featuring over 153 ‘yokai’ or demons in the manga.
