Deplar Farm, Iceland

Esquire (Malaysia) - - CULTURE -

Situated in an isolated spot in the Fljot Valley on North Iceland’s Troll Peninsula (to call it mountainous is an understatement, it’s like the surface of Mars), this Arctic outpost of adventure holiday company Eleven Experience is as “zhuzhy” as it is remote. Food, drinks and activities are covered in the price and meals (reindeer tartare or braised minke whale, anyone?) are eaten communally, which might sound unappealing, but given there are only 20 or so guests at any time and that the property (built in the shell of an abandoned farm) is enormous, you’ll still feel splendidly isolated. It has an expansive spa with indoor/outdoor geothermal pool (with a permanently manned outdoor bar), a pair of flotation tanks and an igloo-style outdoor sauna. Off-farm options include whale watching, fly-fishing, horse riding and heli-skiing. Then again, there’s always the pool bar. elevenexperience.com
