A Day Of Silence
Instead of fireworks and fanfare, celebrate the Balinese New Year the way the locals do: in silence. Also known as Nyepi, the Balinese New Year falls on 28 March and involves an island-wide purification through a 24-hour period of silence. During this time there can be no fire, travel, entertainment or noise; and as long as you don’t leave your hotel, these rules are relaxed for tourists. Enjoy the special two-night Nyepi package at Ayana hotels where you can watch the ‘ogoh-ogoh’ parade of ghoulish paper maché statues, indulge in a therapy pool treatment and have a picnic on the resort’s lawns.
