When the pyra­mids of Giza were built, work­ers were par­tially paid with beer as a source of re­fresh­ment and re­ward for their hard work. This was not un­com­mon in Egypt dur­ing an­cient times as the river Nile was pol­luted, mak­ing beer the best sub­sti­tute for wa­ter!
