The best time to start buying mooncakes from hotels is early to mid-august – most will have their promotions out by then and will offer early bird and bulk purchase discounts. You can also specify a collection date.

Besides hotels, many Chinese restaurants like Tai Thong and Dragon-i, as well as supermarkets and local bakeries will also have mooncake promotions.

Mooncakes can be kept for a few months and the yolkless mooncakes are supposed to be tastier if you leave them for longer as the flavours have time to ‘settle’. Also, eat mooncakes slowly to enjoy the richness – they aren’t Doritos to be snacked on by the handful.
