The best mothers in video games.

Mothers… Where would we be without them?

Mother’s Day falls on May 14 this year, and in the spirit of celebrating the women who raised us to be the great people that we are – or are becoming – we’re not only honoring those who have raised us in real life, but also the virtual ones who have done the role proud by raising their own children, or have been such paragons of humanity that they serve as role models to the younglings who look up to them, in hyper fantasy settings where things easily go wrong, and do more often than not.

This is especially important in video games because, for whatever reason, the role of mothers is a very absent one compared to other forms of media. While in movies and novels it’s not uncommon to observe doting mothers hovering over children, their counterpart in video games are often absent, as dictated by the plot. Well, it’s either that or the plot demands that they act extremely unmotherly that you wonder if they really are who the story says they are.

With all that out of the way, here are nine video game moms who have acted in very motherly ways, despite all their shortcomings.
