Audemars Piguet ambassador Serena Williams secures another victory
Serena Williams is no stranger to the world, and the American professional tennis star has bagged another victory under her belt in the latest Australia Grand Slam on 28th January, Saturday. Down under, she has won seven titles, including her first Grand Slam in New York in September 1999. With the latest accolade, Serene Williams has returned to being the world’s number one female tennis professional tennis player.
The Audemars Piguet ambassador perfectly personify the brand philosophy “To break the rules, you must first master them”. Serena defeated her sister Venus in two sets, while breaking the tie with Steffi Graf for the open-era record whilst playing with a rose gold Millenary on the wrist during the Australian fortnight.
The Millenary Hand-wound watch comes with small seconds, 18-carat pink gold case, 116 brilliant-cut diamond-set bezel and lugs, crown set with a pink cabochon
sapphire as well as white mother-of-pearl off-centred disc, pink gold hands and white alligator strap. Other notable functions include water-resistance up to 20m and a calibre 5201 – designed specifically for the watch’s oval shape and feminine style. The calibre is fully customised and operates at a frequency of three-Hertz, while containing 157 parts and 19 jewels.
To celebrate Serena’s achievements, Audemars Piguet filmed the 35-year old tennis champion in stunning black and white setting while reciting a famous poem from Rudyard Kipling “If”, with a slight twist at the end.
“If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on!”
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with Kings – nor lose the common touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And – which is more – you’ll be a Woman, Sister.”
