In every epic story or legend, heroes would usually be given specially crafted tools of war ranging from swords, to bows or other specialty armour to gain an edge in battle.

For Frodo in the Lord of the Rings, this was “Sting”, a sword which glowed when Orcs were near; for King Arthur, this was Excalibur, gifted to him by the Lady of the Lake and for Charlemagne, first King of France, this was Joyeuse, rumoured to be forged from the legendary “Spear of Destiny”.

Golfers, like it or not, require the same edge on the fairways and a lucky few obtained this opportunity to experience a unique fitting experience with Mizuno Master Fitter, Shigeharu

Yabumoto courtesy of MST Golf. Arranged exclusively for ilovegolf and TPC KL members, fitting sessions with Master Fitter Shigeharu Yabumoto were limited to 6 sessions per day with fully booked sessions for the 4 days he was present in Malaysia. In addition to the custom fit, attendees of the sessions also received advanced training on Mizuno fitting techniques.

During an informal dinner session with selected media representatives, Yabumoto-san confidently announced that fitting is “the short cut way to success in golf”. “Everyone should really experience the benefits that fitting can provide,” he said. “How would you know if you’re able to use a club that you’re buying off the shelf and that’s where golfers have a lot of problems buying clubs. The only true way to realize your potential in golf is to go through a custom fit,” declared Yabumoto-san. The master fitter also revealed that he uses custom fitted Mizuno MP-5 irons and JPX500 for a driver.

MST Golf CEO, Ng Yap said that the custom fitting sessions were arranged to help improve the quality of golf among maturing Malaysian golfers. “Custom fitting is getting more and more important among Malaysian golfers as the game of golf continues to mature in the country. We would like to help our golfers take the guess work out of the equation of golf,” he said.

Echoing his thoughts, General Manager of Mizuno Singapore Pte

Ltd, David Leow said that the event was the first of many more interesting partnerships between Mizuno and MST to elevate the game of golf. “We’re looking forward to coming up with more interesting ways to partner with MST Golf to provide more value to the players. This is just the first of many more events to come,” said Leow
