HATTON’S AMAZING STORY
Not only did Tyrell Hatton create history by winning the Italian Open, he did it with a birdie on the last to secure his second consecutive victory on the European Tour.
The Englishman won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship the week before and with the confidence still flowing in him, he produced a sublime final round performance with six birdies, that included five on the back nine for a flawless 65 on Sunday to win his first Rolex Series event.
When Hatton was on the 18th green, the tournament seemed destined to head for a playoff as clubhouse leaders Ross Fisher and Kiradech Aphibarnrat were tied with him on 20-under-par.
His 15-footer ensured that it was his time at Monza, by just one stroke.
