First es­tab­lished in 1996, the gallery has since hosted count­less solo and group art exhibitions. Es­tab­lished in 2012 in the hopes of con­vert­ing a younger set of art lovers into fu­ture col­lec­tors, this hip new art gallery is home to art col­lec­tor and ambassador Dato’ N Parameswaran’s ex­ten­sive col­lec­tion of Malaysian and South­east Asian art. His daugh­ter Sharmin, whose in­ter­est lies in con­tem­po­rary art and young artists, man­ages the gallery and hosts exhibitions by lo­cal tal­ents the likes of Yu­sof Ghani, Haron Mokhtar, Har­ris Ribut, Don­ald Abra­ham, Tey Beng Tze, and Lim Keh Soon. Her name­sake Wei-Ling Gallery is housed in an old shop house that’s been beau­ti­fully re­stored. This ex­pan­sive, pur­pose­ful space of­fers the ideal plat­form for es­tab­lished as well as up-and-com­ing con­tem­po­rary artists to show­case their thought-pro­vok­ing works. A cast-iron rail­ing en­trance re­veals an an­tique ware­house on the ground floor and a lofty three-floor dis­play space of white walls and wooden ele­ments. The stylish gallery plays host to 12 exhibitions an­nu­ally, with a strong fo­cus on lo­cal tal­ent; in­ter­na­tional names such as cel­e­brated Aus­tralian artist Ste­wart Mac­Far­lane, Michal Macku, In­dia’s Su­nil Das and the late MF Hu­sain, and Cuban artist Nel­son Dominguez have all been fea­tured here pre­vi­ously. 8 Jalan Scott, Brick­fields.
