BAZAAR at polo

The nation’s polo stars battled it out at the RMPA International Polo League, where BAZAAR was official media. Jogo Polo defeated Head Hunters for third place, just before KotaSAS-IBIL and Ranhill Polo went head to head in the finals. “Today’s game was quite tough; both teams were pretty even. It was very intense and I think it was one of the longest games we’ve played,” commented Quzier Ambak of Jogo Polo. “It was quite tiring for the horses, too, and we missed out on a lot of chukkas. But in the end, we managed to score the last goal so I’m very happy with the win.”

For the finals, it was KotaSAS-IBIL who emerged victorious with 6.5-6 in their favour, defending the title they won in 2012. “It feels fantastic to win the same tournament this year. It was an intense game – very close,” said YM Tengku Amir Nasser Ibrahim of KotaSAS-IBIL. “That half-goal we won earlier on in the game made a huge difference. We got a big lead at the start as well, which is great. They caught up towards the end but we kept fighting and we kept defending, we were in front all the way for all five chukkas. It’s a great result – even though we didn’t participate in the first tournament in Thailand and overall we came third – so I’m pretty happy.”

When asked if this was KotaSAS-IBIL’s revenge for Ranhill Polo’s 9-8 win in the recent Royal Pahang Classic tournament, the young prince laughed, “Well, you could call it revenge, I guess. But it was a good final.”

Nevertheless, Ranhill Polo took the honours as overall league champions, winning the RMPA International League for the first time in nine years.
