Tomas Maier’s collections have always revolved around beautiful, functional clothes women will love forever. This season’s focus was on dresses, specifically ’40s-inspired frocks with statement shoulders and nipped-in waists. Maier modernised the retro influence with his play on volume and sharpness. Shoulders were oversized and cut into sharp folds while the pleats that cascaded down some dresses had an architectural feel. Though outerwear was rounded and cocooned the body, they were belted at the waist, a realistic and flattering way of tackling this trend. Toying with the idea of raw beauty, Maier embroidered raffia and straw onto dresses, and then softly frayed the edges and hems.
