Miuccia Prada summed up this collection as “Parisian chic” but of course, a Miuccia collection is never so simple. While the colourful scarves tied around the necks might be very Parisian and very chic, there was also a whiff of the turn-of-the-century in the hourglass silhouettes and the ruffled skirts of silk-taffeta peeking out from underneath long jackets. The story Prada imagined is that of a sailor’s wife, waiting by the sea for her husband. Hence, the mannish jackets (her husband’s, perhaps?) pulled close with belts and worn with striped scarves and socks. Lest any think the clothes hovered too closely around costume, they also proved extremely functional. Double-breasted wool coats and quilted parkas in black or navy with sporty-modern zippers were some pieces that will move fast at retail.
