No doubt many did elegance this season, but Marc Jacobs had one of the most evocative shows. Bathing the entire space in sepia, Jacobs created a nostalgic mood; an old-time glamour a world away from his Mod Spring collection with its long, languid lines and rich, moody colours. Simplicity was his other key message, and what could be simpler than pyjamas? One can imagine living day and night in his silky pyjamas – fully sequinned for evening – and delicate slip dresses. Though simple, the pieces were dripping in vintage glamour. Almost every look came with fur: mink was wrapped around the necks of cashmere sweaters; glistening lamé and crystal dresses were finished with fox on the shoulders; and models trailed fur stoles along the ground.
