Harper’s Bazaar (Malaysia) - - Talking Points -

Taken in the 1970s, the ‘Tin Mine Landscapes’ series is arguably Eric Peris’s most significant contribution to Malaysian art history. Narrating the history of a nation, the images portray how the region’s wealth of building resources was derived from tin mines at the expense of our picturesque landscapes. Photographed during the emotional journey on which Peris embarked to cope with the death of his father and mentor, the series evokes a fragile sense of abandonment, rejuvenation, preservation, and extinction. Runs through October 31 at Shalini Ganendra Fine Art, Gallery Residence, 8 Lorong 16/7B, Section 16, Petaling Jaya. Tel: 03-7960 4740.
