HOTEL MONTEVERDI

Harper’s Bazaar (Malaysia) - - Life -

Garden-lovers will have heard of La Foce, an estate created by Cecil Pinsent for the writer Iris Origo in the 1920s and 1930s. It is still an inspiring example of Renaissance-style planting with its clipped box hedges and elegant fountains. For Origo, its green geometry gave a pleasing “sense of order to nature.” Stay nearby at the lovely new seven-room Hotel Monteverdi, in a mediaeval village with castle, 12th-Century chapel, and cobbled streets intact. A lavender-bordered infinity pool has been added, a kitchen garden planted and, with walks among cypress trees on offer, this has quickly become a true Eden in the parched heart of Tuscany’s Crete Senesi, the clay foothills of Siena. www.monteverdituscany.com
