Fur-Tas­tic EVO­LU­TION

With a twist of mod­ern fresh­ness, Karl Lager­feld art­fully pays homage to Fendi’s roots of fur aplenty in an un­for­get­table Spring/Sum­mer ’14 collection. By Sharmita Summugam.

ast Septem­ber, Fendi sent an army of top mod­els in a bold, dar­ing collection of mas­ter­fully ar­tic­u­lated mono­chrome colour blocks and in­tri­cate graphic-tex­tured lay­ers down its glo­ri­ous run­way. A wa­ter­fall calmly cas­caded down the back­drop, in­spired by Karl Lager­feld and Fendi’s ‘The Glory of Wa­ter’ ex­hi­bi­tion. The Mai­son’s lat­est collection, a man­i­fes­ta­tion of Lager­feld’s de­sign ge­nius cou­pled with years of ex­pe­ri­ence within the in­dus­try, has nour­ished our de­sire for the new. The fu­ture of fash­ion has been fore­told; Fendi of­fi­cially set the tone and gave us a taste of what’s to come, with a bril­liantly clever Spring/Sum­mer ’14 collection that ex­pressed the essence of pro­gres­sion by cun­ningly play­ing with the move­ment of colour and gra­da­tion of tones as dis­played on the dresses.

Lager­feld and Sil­via Ven­turini Fendi took last sea­son’s fur-filled Fendi hy­brid looks to a whole new level by re­defin­ing fab­ric artistry in an ul­ti­mately mod­ern way, sex­ing up overused ma­te­ri­als such as or­ganza with laser-cut lay­ers in a full spec­trum of colours, rem­i­nis­cent of light pass­ing through wa­ter.
