The youngest graduate of Central Saint Martins’s MA fashion course, Thomas Tait went on to win the first LVMH Young Designer Prize, judged by a star panel that included Marc Jacobs, Phoebe Philo, Karl Largerfeld, Nicolas Ghesquière, and LVMH’s executive vice-president Delphine Arnault.
For AFF, minimalistic maximalist fluid designs of daring hues, abstract colour-blocked prints, and a clever play of high-tech fabrics gave his looks a retro Thierry Mugler feel. In an interesting twist, a technical glitch had models walking double time. While this made Instagramming difficult, it somehow added to the provocative, almost subversive look and feel of the collection.
