40S+ R ADIANT PRESENCE
2011 When Jeanne Lanvin first fashioned the Arpège perfume in 1927, it was for her daughter’s 30th birthday. However, the mother-daughter bond really goes further back. Marie-Blanche was the source of inspiration for Lanvin, and the true raison d’etre of the eponymous storied fashion house. Lanvin, a milliner, made gorgeous dresses for her daughter that quickly garnered public attention. The ripple effect led to real potential – Lanvin established a business in 1909, when she went from making outfits for little girls to eventually their mothers, too. This cocktail of success and love is beautifully transfused into the perfume, and the marble ball-like flacon emblazoned with the house’s symbol – an Art Deco leitmotif designed by Paul Iribe of both mother and daughter caught in a dance, resplendent in their ball gowns – is still a signature that the fashion house keeps today.
Keeping in line with the heritage of uncompromising love and style, Arpège has since been modernised. Enter Eclat d’Arpège, a new iteration that has seen a new bottle design and many more limited editions, like a woman taking on various outfits but remaining true at heart. “Women of different generations find it addictive,” states Karine Dubreuil, the nose behind Eclat d’Arpège. While Arpège was a regal noir affair of rose and jasmine, Eclat is dressed in a beautiful pale violet hue. The signature tender notes of the scent is a jovial sparkle evocative of spring days, courtesy of fresh Sicilian lemon leaves, the fragrant petals of lilac, wisteria, and peony, green tea leaves, and a creamy dry-down of musk and cedar.
“Since I grew up in a garden in Grasse in the south of France, I wanted to transcribe the array of budding fragrances, which characterise spring through a floral composition with a simple, figurative writing, as if permeated with a breath of lightness,” Dubreuil shares. “Women can recognise themselves in the fragrance’s signature note, which I wanted to be subtle yet significant.” 2009 Eclat d’Arpège Musique 2007 Eclat d’Arpège Summer
