January looks set to be a month of sizzling passion at the DFP, with the ‘Carmen Festival’, celebrating

140 years of Bizet’s ‘Carmen’. CARMEN IN DANCE ( JANUARY 16 & 17, 8.30PM AND JANUARY 18, 3PM) will reintroduce to KL the sensual ballet from Bizet’s legendary opera. Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin reworked Carmen for his ballerina wife, now artfully choreographed by Wan Chin Choong, artistic director of Danceworks. Kelsey Landers plays the title role. CARMEN FOR THE FAMILY ( JANUARY 24 & 25, 3PM) A perfect introduction to a grand piece of work, Carmen For The Family will take you through the opera in great detail. Discover the life of the sultry gypsy and learn what makes this timeless composition ever popular 140 years on. BIZET’S CARMEN ( JANUARY 28 & 30, 8.30PM AND FEBRUARY 1, 3PM) Andre Heller- Lopes directs Bizet’s Carmen with the MPO in a semi-staged opera performance. Don’t miss the fiery Spanish dances, intense romance, and heartbreaking tragedy, performed by Patricia Bardon as Carmen, James Valenti as Don José, and the well-loved Kuala Lumpur Children’s Choir.
