“An open win­dow wear­ing win­ter’s dirt, a hum­ming­bird’s high pitch whir ... ” are the open­ing lines of the poem “March 18” by Mar­garet James that be­came the start­ing point for Khoon Hooi’s Spring/Sum­mer ’15 col­lec­tion. Skirts and jack­ets fea­ture scal­loped edges in­spired by feath­ers on a wing, while hum­ming­bird and flo­ral em­broi­dery lend a touch of spring to a largely pas­tel-coloured col­lec­tion.

“This poem caught my at­ten­tion and made my imag­i­na­tion run wild,” says Khoon Hooi. “I pic­tured a girl with hope to see the world again, wear­ing some­thing that in­di­cates her emo­tions, a sigh of re­lief.” And af­ter the darker hues of Au­tumn/Win­ter ’14, who wouldn’t breathe a sigh of re­lief to see wel­come shades of mint, rose, and lilac?
