Hong Kong-born, New York-based fashion designer Ximon Lee is the first menswear designer to win the H&M Design Award. Presented at Fashion Week Stockholm, this year’s competition was judged by an international jury that included Luella Bartley, design director of Marc by Marc Jacobs, photographer Tommy Ton, Lily Allen, and Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M’s head of design, new development. “Ximon’s collection captivated the jury with its contemporary yet poetic mood, with a strong feeling for fabric and an incredible attention to detail,” says Johansson. Adds Bartley, “His research was beautiful, the fabric development was really accomplished, and his design was good. I think he is an incredible designer.” Lee won €50,000, and a chance to develop pieces from his collection to be sold at select H&M stores and online later this year.
