We’ve all been there before, standing in front of a mirror only to see a faint age spot taunting us. You swear it wasn’t there a week ago. That’s the thing with age spots – they creep up unexpectedly and before you know it, your beautiful complexion is marred and it is too late to do anything about it. Now that the years have caught up, so have these spots. It is a vicious cycle in older skin, one that works very differently from the processes of young skin. As skin ages, its process of expelling melanin – the core reason for age spots – isn’t as efficient. For a spot to appear on your skin, a signal has to be sent out by the dermis. This signal is controlled by what is known as the inner melano shield. Think of this as protection against spots, which works just fine while you are young. But as the years go by, its function deteriorates and collapses. When this happens, that stubborn age spot finds its way to the surface of your skin. And the worst part has yet to be addressed – once it’s there, no matter how much microdermabrasion or UV protection you use, it just won’t go away. Shiseido Vital- Perfection White Circulator Serum, RM511 (40ml)

As they say, prevention is better than cure. And in the case of age spots, it is all about pulling the plug on the melanin-formation cycle. “Moisturising is a higher priority now, especially at my age,” says Hong Kong actress Michelle Reis, who swears by Shiseido VitalPerfection to keep ageing at bay. “I carefully practise highly effective skincare that suits my skin, and I find that this range best suits me because it keeps my skin hydrated all day long and also gives me a beautiful complexion.”

Reis, 44, continues: “The Shiseido VitalPerfection White Circulator Serum has solved most of my skin concerns, such as dark spots, dull, yellow tone, loss of resilience, and wrinkles. It keeps my skin glowing with perfect clarity now. I must say, this is truly a number one product for me.”

The hero in this new serum is an advanced ingredient complex known as the Shield Builder WT that comprises of white lily, glucosamine hydrochloride, and beach bud extract. The complex helps rebuild skin’s inner melano shield to ultimately break the cycle by creating a stronger resistance against the formation of age spots.

As for its whitening benefits, the serum immerses skin with a unique blend of vital plant extracts. A whitening ingredient known as 4MSK blocks aged proteins – the common root of ageing and discolouration – so that skin can repair itself more efficiently.

To experience the benefits that the White Circulator Serum has for your skin, massage it in with Shiseido’s Easy Facial Massage technique. Use circular motions starting from your lower jaw and slowly work your way up until the essence is completely absorbed.

“It has a jelly-like texture that turns into lotion once I have spread it across my skin,” claims Reis. “What I love most is its lightweight and dewy texture, and how it has further enhanced my complexion by keeping dark spots at bay.”

“With Shiseido’s unrivalled dedication and advancement in skin technology, as well as being an Asian brand, I truly believe that this product clearly understands the needs of Asian women, who want to achieve the most beautiful, youthful skin,” shares Reis. “I use it every single day and it definitely tops the charts for me!” Available at Shiseido beauty counters nationwide.
