Affectionately known in the industry as “Kak Zai”, Zaihani likens fashion to that of a swirling whirlpool. “Fashion’s energy is so strong, even if you stay by the sidelines, you get pulled in,” Zaihani explains. A permanent fixture at the front row of Malaysia’s fashion week shows, you’d be hard-pressed not to spot her quirky sense of style from a mile away. “The stylist Jiman [Casablancas] once described me as ‘quirky and classic’ at the same time,” she reveals. Known for her unique take on styling a classic white shirt, Zaihani’s transformation on-set reminded us of Marlene Dietrich’s signature gender-bending look. “You can never have too many white shirts in your closet,” she says, before stripping off her black hosiery, taking us all by surprise. “It’s the one thing that can be transformed however you want, and is the one constant staple in my ever-changing wardrobe.”
