This year, to mark the anniversary, the new key active ingredient, Éphémères de Planifolia, was founded to significantly increase the biological synthesis of a certain HS6ST2 enzyme, with that, the longevity, bioactivity, and effectiveness of these life factors.

Nicola Fuzzati, director of the active ingredients research department at Chanel Parfums Beauté, dedicates his time exploring and upkeeping Chanel’s precious plants, grown mainly in Madagascar. “The éphémère are produced around the seeds inside the vanilla pods,” he shares passionately. “We discovered that they appear and disappear for a very short period, from the end of April to the beginning of May. That’s what makes them ephemeral ... ”

It took three years of on-site testing and lab analysis to pinpoint exactly the period when the molecules are most concentrated in the éphémère. Early May is the best moment to harvest these pods, collected in bunches to preserve its biological potential. Time is of the essence, literally speaking; as soon as they are collected, they are sent at the same time for France. “No one else does this. It’s a logistical and technological feat,” says Fuzzati on how the fragile molecules are extracted in a matter of a day.

At Pantin, the green vanilla pods of Madagascar are processed in a tailor-made, brandnew extraction process called Chrono-Extraction to delicately capture the precious molecules at the right moment, without damaging them. “Everything is carefully calibrated,” says Fuzzati, where this liquid gold is combined with the enriched Planifolia PFA to double the skin regeneration power of La Crème for stronger, firmer, sublime skin.

But what’s an essence without the right emotions to present it with? Chanel has researched the million-dollar question of what women want, taking a cognitive psychological approach combined with biological explorations to create the perfect super cream. “This is Chanel’s ‘emotional art’, created to give that mind-body connection,” completes Souraud. “Think optimal skin regeneration with an authentic glow.” As we know, with age comes wisdom, and Chanel’s advanced La Crème is truly intelligent.
