LEON BRIDGES “It’s just crazy,” 26-year-old Leon Bridges says of his sudden success. “It’s amazing, but it’s so fast, I’ve become numb. It is insane that people want to come and see me, and fill up a stadium.” Bridges’ debut album Coming Home brings back a very definite soul vibe that neatly fills a musical gap we didn’t even realise was there. He sings in a soulful way that recalls the ’50s and the ’60s. “It was something I developed when I became a dancer,” he says. “You have to play a character a lot of the time. The essentials are high-waisted trousers and short-sleeved collared shirts; I like to put on a blazer here and there. I love the detail in a lot of those [vintage] shirts and jackets.” USHERA A free-spirited bohemian diva in the urban music scene, Malaysian songstress Ushera Yusof has kept her fans enthralled with her new single, “Give Me”. “It is about my experience with a complicated relationship. But I got over it, and decided that if it’s going to be a break-up song, it would be something that I can dance to,” muses the singer.

Ushera’s feisty, go-getter attitude isn’t only prevalent in her soulful anthems. A fan of conceptual shows, Ushera is never one to shy away from a playful, sultry presence. Asked on her latest inspiration for costumes, she says, “I’ve been told by one of my audience members that I needed to find a more clever way to do my ‘big reveal’ onstage, and one of my stylist friend gave me a leather trench coat that I could use for that purpose. It works!”
