After closing shop late last year, British designer Jonathan Saunders has found new beginnings as Diane von Furstenberg’s newest chief creative officer. While it won’t be until this September for his debut collection with the American brand, get ahead of the game with these need-to-know facts. Growing up, his parents had hoped for him to become a carpenter. “My early life was all Bibles and brown furniture,” he once mentioned. “Anything materialistic or frivolous was frowned upon.” In 2003, Saunders caught the attention of the late designer Alexander McQueen, and created the iconic bird-ofparadise print for McQueen’s Spring/ Summer ’03 show. Womenswear isn’t his only passion. The British designer once designed a luxurious swimming pool for Jamaica’s extravagant five-star hotel, Sensatori Resort.
