How has fitness helped you get your life back on track? Fitness makes me feel so free! I fell in love with lifting weights when my mum had a personal trainer, and now I know that to achieve my goals, I have to fuel myself properly. I rarely go a day without eating at least 2,000 calories, because I know my body needs it.

DELICIOUS SERVINGS What are your favourite workouts?

When I’m lifting weights, my favourite muscle groups to train are my shoulders and back. Vinyasa flow has also contributed greatly to my flexibility and mental well-being. And whether I’m training for a ballroom competition or at a salsa bar, dancing is when I can be 100 percent myself, and nothing else matters when I’m doing it.

What motivates you?

Me! I wouldn’t be where I am today, realising how strong I am, if it wasn’t for the struggle. Everyone deals with insecurities, but knowing that those things only ever exist in your head is the first step to being freed from them.

If you could, what would you tell your younger self?

Don’t stop smiling, Marissa. You are 100 percent responsible for how your life goes. Remember that both the past and the future are creations in our minds, and who we are is a narrative of the present time.

And finally, your favourite motto?
