First invented in 1795 by Abraham-Louis Breguet, the tourbillion was used to counter the effects of gravity by vertiginous pocket watches. Thanks to today’s modern mechanical movements, the tourbillion has become relatively unnecessary, but it still acts as testament to a maison’s craftsmanship. The most remarkable is the flying tourbillion, where it is supported by only one bridge rather than two, giving it its “weightless” form.
