Personal Style: Amanda Chaang
The Astro SuperSport host talks female empowerment, shopping habits, and style inspirations. By Mughni Che Din.
Vivacious, alluring, and charming—words that immediately come to mind when you are in the presence of style aficionado Amanda Chaang. The 27-year-old, best known for her current role as TV host for Astro SuperSport, is no stranger to taking risks with her personal style. Her style, as Amanda declares, is never clearly defined. “Fashion is emotional. It makes me feel like the other version of myself, like my Sunday best—just throwing stuff on creates a mood so specific and different everyday,” she explains. However, she admits that dressing for work can be tricky. Mindful that “clothes translate differently on screen,” Amanda strives to ensure that the pieces she has to work with look flattering on her when she goes on-air. “You could say I was born into fashion,” Amanda divulges. “My mother has impeccable taste in fashion. I still go through her wardrobe of extensive vintage pieces.” Citing Bianca Jagger at the height of the Studio 54’s fame, as well as Lauren Santo Domingo, co-founder of ModaOperandi.com, as some of her style heroes, Amanda continues, “I adore women with a unique sense of style. Their iconic looks reflect their success and it’s very empowering.”
