Harper’s Bazaar (Malaysia) - - The Fashionable Life -

Centred on the Patani region, of provinces Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, and parts of Songkhla, ‘Patani Semasa’ is an exhibition that investigates and presents the complex history and current happenings in that geographical area. Featuring the varied voices of 28 contemporary artists—many of which are from the region itself—the exhibition is an important mix of perspectives, developed in response to the religious and political conflict happening there in the past 13 years (20042017). Suhaidee Sata’s Symbols of Violence 11 utilises guns made of coconut shells to reveal his reaction to the violence that has taken a toll on the civilian’s lives while Kameelah I-lala’s series of faceless brides, triggered by the assassination of grooms due to cultural differences, is equally as haunting. Until July 15 at Ilham Gallery, Level 3 & 5, Ilham Tower, 8 Jalan Binjai, Kuala Lumpur. Tel: 03-2181 3003.ham
