Get your fill of lobster at this celebrated restaurant.
What do you get when a group of friends get together and discuss a novel and an eponymous menu that specialises in only two items, from completely different ends of the spectrum? A restaurant chain that has food aficionados salivating all over the globe, that’s what – and a story that is now being re-told on our shores.
Located at Sky Avenue in Genting, its warm and inviting interior beckons to the nostalgia of yesteryears with dark shades of old oak illuminated by warm low lights – a particular wall is decorated with 104 traditional lobster crates. While waiters decked in black and white hustle and bustle, you’ll be cosying up in booths that sport plush red seats and tapping your foot to retro tunes from the likes of Dusty Springfield.

650 to 700 grammes of lobster is delivered weekly to Genting, straight from the azure waters of Nova Scotia, Canada. And make no mistake, they are still alive and well – with frozen ingredients dubbed a blasphemy in their kitchen. Why Nova Scotia, I ask. “Firstly, it’s for the delicious and tender quality of the meat. Secondly, between all of our other franchises, we are ordering up to 40,000 lobsters a week and it’s the only place in the world that can deliver that quantity consistently,” replies Fabrizio Lippi, the general manager.

It's not just all bountiful offerings from the sea as I dig into the succulent Australian beef burger patties – all served with a side of shoestring fries and salad. The purist gastronomist will err on The Original side with pickles, onions, cheese, and lashings of B&L’s sweet and tantalising secret sauce. Those looking for a more whimsical affair would do well to bite into their juicy B&L Burger – the smattering of lobster meat paired with their tarragon and truffle sauce will produce a sing-song of flavours.
But the team’s dedication to elevating your dining experience goes far beyond the exacting standards of their meat. Just order any one of the lobster rolls to fully appreciate their soft signature brioche with a buttery crisp top. As with any other Original item ordered off the menu, The Original roll comes with their divine lemon and garlic butter sauce – sumptuous when paired with tender slivers of lobster meat tossed in a solid base of Japanese mayo. Meanwhile, stronger palates will better appreciate the more robust seven spices sauce in the Seven Samurai Roll.
Polishing off every delectable crumb, it was time to savour the star: the chilli lobster. If it rings a bell, you’ll be chuffed to know that it was created for our Malaysian taste buds. Served in a claypot with brioche, it’s best to eat it piping hot as the meat can turn a little chewy due to the way it’s cooked. Nonetheless, it doesn’t put a dent in our scorecard as Burger & Lobster’s rendition of our well-loved piquant sauce is truly exquisite. But to really experience this establishment at its peak, we cannot recommend enough The Original wild live lobster – grilled or steamed with either clarified butter, or lemon-and-garlic butter. The former has layers of smoky depth to the meat, while the latter is absolutely creamy and just stunning all around.
“We didn’t know about the chilli sauce before arriving in Malaysia, but we tried it and went ‘whoah, this is fantastic’! Wherever we go, we try to get something from the locals so that we can bring it back to the UK.” –Fabrizio Lippi
