CARING WITH YOU
Caring With you doesn’t have a set programme – it’s only determined every morning, after the centre’s caregivers have evaluated and segregated their clients into groups based on their level of functionality, language, and interests. Doing away with tradition and strict rules, you won’t find dementia signage around the premise as they prefer to refer to themselves as an exclusive social club. They also take into account every individual’s pre-dementia lifestyle and do their best to emulate those routines.
So, don’t be surprised to find sessions where a group of housewives are given a bundle of laundry to sort out – buttoning up shirts can help with cognitive abilities. Clients will also be able to participate in croquet, gardening, baking, art work, and musical activities. For individuals with high behavioural challenges, they are brought into a sensory room for a talk to calm them down before they join the groups once more. But whatever the activity, you can be sure they place serious emphasis on encouraging social engagement – to put that gleam and will to live back in their clients’ eyes.
