Herworld (Malaysia) - - KIDS TAKEOVER - S erena Zar a Taufiq, 9

Being chosen as a kid editor initially made me feel excited, honoured and even a little glamorous. In my heart, I felt like I had won some sort of glittering trophy. Two months down the line, I became a different girl – with fantasy transformed into reality. It was hard work and demanded commitment, as well as an extremely high level of discipline and organisational skills. The most striking features I observed in Eena, HerWorld’s editor, are engraved in my mind now. Eena is perfectly groomed, walks gracefully and, without fail, always has a smile and appears so cool, calm and energetic even when her schedule is so taxing. The experiences I’ve had as a kid editor were lifechanging and mind-opening. I’ve metamorphosed and see the world through much different eyes – reality is challenging but rewarding.

Trying out new vegan ice cream, going to cooking demos, experiencing the new nutritious Black Berry rice, the glitz and glam of Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week 2017 and, in the end, exploring parental response to slimy slime. There were definitely some relaxing moments over hot chocolate with my fellow kid editors. It was all worth it – I found friendship and role models. The editors and all the people in the publishing line have so much to teach. They are genuine examples of patience, creativity, forward thinking, precise planning, flexibility, hard work and, most important of all, engaged listening. An editor listens, pools opinions, and becomes a voice for the people: spreading positivity and changing lives.

I would like to thank HerWorld for this precious and priceless experience.
