WeChat invited the media for lunch last month to talk social media

HWM (Malaysia) - - TELEPORT -

Last month, WeChat invited the media to lunch, as well as to give us a brief summary of what’s happening with the world’s most popular social media app currently.

Having lunch with us was Louis Song, Country Manager for WeChat in Malaysia. Song talked briefly about what’s new on the latest version of the app, WeChat 5.0. One of the latest features mentioned was the “Hold Together” function, a location based service that allows users to further find and connect friends who are close to each other. Along with this new feature, the app also has a new “Save Messages” function which allow users to keep sentimental text and voice messages and photos.

Song also made mention of how the mobile social games circle is growing at an accelerated rate. This, in turn, had led WeChat to come up with a whole list of brand new mobile gaming content on the app. Like a traditional arcade style game, WeChat users can play these games and even rank fights among themselves to see who has the highest score either between friends or completely across the scoreboard.

Briefly mentioned by Song was how WeChat has begun rolling out its first online checking system for flights in mainland China. Similar to many electronic services we find today, the process allows WeChat users in China to check-in for their flights without ever having to visit the counter. Once confirmed, users would then be given a QR code which could be scanned at specialized machines located at the airport in China.
