A look at the Centrance HiFi M8 DAC/Amp
By now, you should be somewhat familiar with DACs and portable amps. Well, in the audiophile world, they’ve managed to integrate both devices into one, pushing the limits of portable audiophile technology. This month, we take a look at one of the best known portable DAC/Amp, the Centrance HiFi-M8 (pronounced “mate”).
What Exactly is the Centrance HiFi M8?
As mentioned above, the Centrance combines both DAC and amplifier functionality, allowing it to output some seriously high audio quality. It works best with iOS devices such as iPhone, iPad, and of course, iPod. The reason for this is simple – the integrated soundcard was specially developed to extract digital audio signals from Apple’s portable devices and convert them into analog signals. Once the signals are converted into analog signals, the integrated amplifier boosts the signal to drive high-end headphones. It is capable of processing signals up to 24-bit and 192kHz, giving you nothing but the best audio quality. Of course, the Centrance HiFi M8 is compatible with devices other than iOS devices. You can also connect your Android device and the Centrance HiFi M8 will function just as well.
The Centrance HiFi M8 is an incredibly powerful DAC/Amp. It has three different output options, a 1/8-inch for SPDIF, 1/4-inch for headphones, and a balanced 4-pin XLR port. There are also a number of sound options to play around with, including output impedance, headphone gain, bass sonic shaping, and treble sonic shaping. Each option has three levels, allowing you to fine-tune the M8 according to your preferred music genre.
