FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
OKI Electric Industry was first known as Meikosha Ltd. Established in 1881 by Kibataro Oki, it was the first company in Japan to mass produce telephones. After many years spent producing telecommunication devices, the company began to focus on producing printers and other info-telecom systems. Throughout the years, the company branched out and created sister companies, one of which is OKI Data Corporation.
OKI Data Corporation (OKI Data) was officially founded in 1994, and specializes in the design, development, manufacture, and marketing of business printing solutions that empower organizations to communicate more effectively. To date, this company is known for the production of award-winning printing solutions that include multifunction printers, color printers, mono printers, fax machines and serial impact dot matrix printers.
Before OKI Data was founded, OKI Electric Industry had already begun building printers. The first printer by the company was released in 1964, and it wasn’t until 1981 that they introduced the world’s first LED printer.
Today, OKI Data operates in 120 countries and regions around the world, and employs more than 5,000 people. Their sales reached JPY117,000 million for the year that ended on March 31, 2013. They have manufacturing facilities in Thailand, the United Kingdom, China, and of course, Japan. Their product range covers everything from desktop publishing to multifunction printers for businesses.
