NetApp Releases New Storage Model and Software for Unbound Cloud Era
Enabling Flexible and Efficient Data Management on a Single Platform
“ONTAP also provides customers with the ability to add or replace storage shelves without disrupting business and improves data security for the cloud system.”
With more companies relying on cloud storage solutions, shared storage infrastructure, and better data management, NetApp has introduced a new line of enterprise storage systems and enhanced software to meet the new demand.
The first revealed product is NetApp’s new storage system, the FAS8000, which is a disk cabinet and also the first enterprise storage system to unify SAN, NAS and storage virtualization into a single hybrid array. Being NetApp’s first FAS platform designed for scale-out storage to be built on clustered Data ONTAP, the FAS8000 also sports a new storage I/O-optimized architecture including the Intel microarchitecture, expanded memory, improved flash support for better flash accelerations up to three times more flash capacity, and low-latency performance for enterprise-class workloads.
NetApp also unveiled the new FlexArray virtualization software, which enables customers to manage their data more efficiently and is backward compatible with SAN and NAS without complex add-ons to the software, allowing customers to unify their IT architecture under one common data umbrella. The cloud-ready software enables the FAS8000 to virtualize and manage thirdparty arrays, as well as providing customers with a nine-month payback guarantee.
Along with the release of the FAS8000 and the FlexArray virtualization software, NetApp also released the latest version of the clustered Data ONTAP, version 8.2.1. ONTAP helps customers eliminate planned downtime and service their infrastructure without disrupting access to user’s data and applications. ONTAP also provides customers with the ability to add or replace storage shelves without disrupting business and improves data security for the cloud system.
