Kinect for Windows v2 Sensor Retails at US$199

HWM (Malaysia) - - NEWSWIRE -

Hobbyists and part-time programmers, take note: Microsoft has began selling the Kinect for Windows v2 sensor in July for US$199 (approx. RM630). Design-wise, the product is similar to that of the Kinect for Xbox One, which include a large noise-isolating microphone array, HD color camera, Time-of-Flight technology and an active infrared system.

According to the Microsoft Store, the Kinect for Windows v2 sensor “gives developers more of the precision, responsiveness, and intuitive capabilities they need to develop interactive voice- and gesture-based applications for the Windows desktop and Windows Store.”

High price point aside, the sensor also does not ship with the Kinect for Windows SDK 2.0 software, as the license is sold separately. With the software in place, developers can then create their own applications with C++, C#, VB.Net, Cx, or JavaScript.
